Dr.
Preble has spent the past ten years working with schools across the country to
empower students, build respect and improve school climate. In 2002, Dr. Preble
founded Main Street Academix to bring together more educators and students in
this exciting work. We have helped over 250 schools build diverse student
leadership teams, collect exciting and sometimes provocative school climate data
from students, teachers, administrators and parents and we have seen them use
these data to better understand the challenges, strengths and needs of their
students and schools. We have watched schools that have improved their climate
see dramatic increases in student academic performance. We have seen elementary
students grow into middle and high school students who respect one another and
who appreciate diversity. We have seen students learn to stand up to bullies,
and to respectfully and effectively challenge ineffective school policies and
practices. We have seen entire schools begin to recognize that intolerance and
injustice have no place in a Respectful School. We are learning how to connect
our partner schools through a Respectful Schools Alliance using web-based
video-conferencing and webinar technology. Our student leaders are making
presentations at state-level, regional and national conferences about their work
and what it means to them and their schools. We can hardly wait to see what
happens in the next 10 years.
Main Street Academix makes the following commitments to clients:
-
To
help caring, committed, student and adult leaders build respectful schools
by standing up for civility, equity, and the dignity of every person.
-
To
help respectful schools recognize and bring out the best in every teacher
and student.
-
To
help schools utilize data and active leadership roles for students and
teachers to be more respectful and successful.
