Webinar #2: Utilizing Diverse Student Leaders as Partners in School Improvement
Thursday, January 08, 2009, 3:00-3:50pm EST. (Thursday)

Leadership Consultant
Sherry Nelson and Student Leaders, Sullivan Central HS, Blountville, TN
Ellen Ahiyon and Student Leaders, Coral Springs Elementary School, Coral Springs, FL

If you want to understand how schools are working, who would you ask; teachers, the student council, administrators, the community? How can we gain an accurate perspective of our schools’ strengths and weaknesses? If you look at the different “lunch table groups” inside any high school or middle school cafeteria, you will see the variety of social groups and cliques in your school.  Each has a different story to tell about your school. Now, imagine a student leadership team made up of representatives from each of these racial, social, socio-economic, academic groups. Imagine them coming together as a team, learning about each other, working together to identify barriers to student success, developing and carrying out powerful action plans to improve their school.

This webinar will feature teams of student leaders from high schools, middle schools and elementary schools who have come together to contribute to important improvements in their schools. We will share criteria for forming your student leadership teams, provide tips for developing and building your team as leaders, and student leaders themselves will discuss their successes and challenges as school improvement partners.
